The Nashville Chapter of Jack and Jill of America, Incorporated and The Links, Incorporated co-hosted a private screening of the movie “Hidden Figures” on February 14, 2017.  The event was a sale out!!!!!

Thank you to Vice President Shay Gresham Howard of the Nashville chapter of Jack and Jill of American, Incorporated for organizing such a wonderful event.  The theater was filled with joy and appreciation for the work the women betrayed in the movie played in the struggle for equality for women.

The film “Hidden Figures” is an adaptation of Margot Lee Shetterly’s book of the same name.  This well told true story of the 60’s highlight the contributions of three African American women who worked for NASA.  These trail blazing women provided NASA with important mathematical and technological skills needed to launch the first successful space mission.

At the conclusion of the movie a question and answer session was lead by a panel of three professional engineers.  The panel included Jack and Jill mother, Dr. Andrea L. Tyler; Dr. Helen Gobel Westbrook, the niece of Dr. Katherine Johnson (depicted by Taraji P. Henson); and Dr. Lesia Crumpton-Young.

The panel answered questions from the audience and shared their personal experiences as Black women in the field of engineering.  It was especially exciting to hear from Jack and Jill mother Andrea L. Tyler who previously worked for NASA as a design and project engineer for the Space Shuttle Mission.
