President Mia Vickers
It is with a warm and grateful heart that I begin this journey to serve as your 2016-18 President of the Nashville chapter of Jack and Jill of America, Inc. Thanks to each of you for your continuing commitment to this chapter and the work that benefits our children and our community.
As we enter our chapter’s 70th year of existence, I am honored to join each of you in carrying forth our mission to nurture African-American leaders envisioned by our Sister-Mother trailblazers. We owe a debt of gratitude to these strong female visionaries and the foundation they laid nearly a century ago. I stand in awe of their enduring legacy.
As you are aware, our 25th National President, Joli Cooper-Nelson and the National Executive Board (NEB) have elected to continue with the governing theme “The Power to Make a Difference”. To harness this thematic vision and to embolden our local efforts, it is paramount that we continue to have an unwavering focus on our children. So, with this in mind, our chapter’s work for the next two years will concentrate on Nurturing Future African American Leaders, One Child at a Time.
I look forward to our journey ahead and understand that our impact is stronger and sustainable through the collective actions of us all, but begins with the work done by each one of us individually. That’s how monuments are built – one brick at a time. That’s how songs are written – one lyric at a time. That’s how our chapter is strong – one mother at a time. And, that’s how we will continue to nurture and empower future leaders, one child at a time.
In closing, I would like to acknowledge and congratulate our very own Southeastern region on its 60th anniversary. Nashville has the distinction of being the region’s first chapter and we remain honored to be a loyal member. Happy Anniversary Sweet, Sweet, Southeast!
Remaining committed to our cause and united in our work, happy 70th Nashville chapter!
Carrying forth our legacy in love,
Jack and Jill of America, Inc.
